For those of you upgrading from Drupal 6.x, there are a few things that aren't readily apparent - particularly regarding the slick administrative interface that you automatically see when doing a standard Drupal 7 installation. It can be particularly frustrating for those of us who were so well entrenched in the pre-Drupal 7 way of doing things.
The Dashboard
If you've done a fresh install of Drupal 7, you've seen the slick administrative panel up top that allows you to administrate just about everything from a single page on your site. On the last upgrade that I did from Drupal 6, it simply wasn't there.
All you need to do is go to Adminster->modules and enable the Dashboard and Overlay modules. Presto, magico, you get that Drupal 7 feel as you administer the site.
Why these modules didn't get activated in the upgrade boggles my mind a little. Of course, I've only upgraded one site so far and I'm preparing to upgrade a second site now and my upgrade may be different.
Post Settings
For those of us used to the Drupal 6 way of limiting the number of pages shown on the front page, finding how to do it in a Drupal 7 install the first time can be annoying.
It's under Configuration->Site Information
In all
In all, uprading is very easy - but these two things I've found are real annoyances that aren't well documented for upgrading. After I do a few more upgrades, I'll probably try to fix the Drupal documentation so that people can spend time more productively after upgrading. Given the amount of changes between Drupal 6 and 7, a few annoyances like this are to be expected... but if we can avoid them.... ;-)
