Drupal.org in need - and the community responds.

A few days ago, when I noted that the Drupal site was down, it amazed me how popular that one entry became - and it also alarmed me because the Drupal comment exploit had nothing to do with Drupal being down - people may have thought that Drupal had fallen to the exploit, when indeed it had not.

Drupal.org is presently up again, in a temporary status, and by the time I found out that they were - they had exceeded the amount of money needed to get their own server. They've been trying to get their server online but haven't been getting any help from the hosting company (something which I am familiar with). But the community responded for their call for money - and as of right now, they have surpassed the target of $3,000 USD for the server(s) and are at $9282 USD. That's amazing, and if they weren't using PayPal, I would be able to donate myself... but the best I can do is get the word out.

Sure, they are over 3 times the amount that they originally needed - but if you're using Drupal on your sites, you should be helping support the system better. After all... Drupal supports your sites. Getting a better server for Drupal.org, as well as monitoring - and even setting up a Drupal Foundation - is in all of our interests.

Me? As soon as I can find a way to send them a modest amount, I will - but in the mean time, I can help spread the word. They support me. I support them. That's community. Without community, it all falls down.
