Lost City, Clive Cussler

The Lost City Clive Cussler is probably one of the authors that I am most familiar with - having grown up with his books on my father's bookshelf. It's this familiarity which caused me to pick up this book in Panama at a farmacia while I was there.

It's a typical Cussler book - science, intrigue, and oceanography related things. The National Underwater and Marine Agency's (NUMA) Special Assignnment Team sends it's leader, Kurt Austin, battling evildoers from around the world in what appears to be the 5th book in the series.

A mysterious body found frozen in a massive glacier. Mutant seaweed which threatens to choke the world's oceans and ultimately drastically alter the planet. An evil Nautilus-type giant submarine exploring the thermal vents of the deep sea area known as the Lost City (thus the name of the book) and the secretive, arms-dealing family of Fauchards. Toss in the Philosopher's Stone and some mutants. Dash in a romantic interest between Kurt Austin and a woman named Skye, sprinkle in some classic aviation and submersibles along with a 16th century helmet... It's all in the book. 528 pages.

Fast paced, and typical Cussler - a modern Dirk Pitt replacement.
