LinuxGazette.com

As of today, I'm no longer affiliated with SSC and have nothing to do with LinuxGazette.com.

What SSC does with LinuxGazette.com is really SSC's business. A decision was made at the end of May, 2005, which has caused the site to appear frozen. That decision should be fairly obvious to anyone who has been following the Linux Gazette issues, and it's a logical conclusion which I had been advocating since December, 2004. It only took me 5 months to talk my way out of that job. That's funny :-)

I do not know what the future of the content available on LinuxGazette.com is. I was not involved in that, and frankly I am pretty glad that I am not involved in that because I would probably disagree with some of the things. I do hope that they honor the Creative Commons license. That's the extent of my hope. Of course, technically speaking, anyone could use the content on LinuxGazette.com once they honor the license.

The community has many other places to go. But I would not suggest submitting content to a site which may not be there soon. Until SSC decides to tell the community something, it's all a big question mark.

Of course, this is all very interesting on many different levels - law, community, ethics, egos, business, etc.

My feeling is actually amusement. I was actually able to predict the future quite well. I'm actually a better person for the experience, I think, and dispelled a lot of illusions I had about people I respected. While this is the end of one part of the LinuxGazette saga, it's not quite over. Even the people involved don't really seem to realize that. Fortunately, I'm not involved anymore.

I'll keep writing here and elsewhere. I have no regrets about any of this.
