Direct Messages From On High: Stop It.
I had RT'd something that someone in my network had pulled from their network and, after a quick glance at profile and stream, I followed the person. The human being. The universe was doing OK until I got a DM from the person that read, "Hey! It's so nice to connect! :) Thanks for following me and have a fabulous day!"
Well, shucks. Now I have to write something back. Personally, I like just following people and seeing where it goes. When someone says something nice I have a tendency to say something back.
With this in mind, I wrote something in a DM (I can't remember what) and tossed it back over the wall. But I couldn't. Why?
The person wasn't following me.
From someone who was new to Twitter, that's forgivable. The offending profile, on the other hand, did seem to be more experienced so... me being me... I challenged it in a nice way, saying that the canned message seemed 'peculiar' since I couldn't respond to it: "Hello, I am here from on high and appreciate that you have accepted me as your Lord(ess?) and Savior. You may not kiss my feet or otherwise speak with me. Do not call me, I will call you."
No, that's OK. I have enough imaginary friends. I don't need new ones sending me direct messages that I can't respond to.
It's bad enough political candidates don't respond to the emails that they sign, isn't it?
