I realize I may be living under a rock, but while an old school friend dropped this peculiar video on my Facebook 'Super Wall' (how I hate that spam magnet), I came across another video afterwards with the Mighty Sparrow himself endorsing none other than Barack Obama in a way that... as someone who walks with a foot in both the United States and Trinidad and Tobago... seems so much like political endorsements of old in Trinidad and Tobago.
Of course, the Mighty Sparrow supported the People's National Movement in Trinidad and Tobago... but now he lives in New York while the People's National Movement are in power. Those may have been different days, but still... he's speaking of voting in the United States now. And the lyrics, while perhaps too exuberant for my taste, should appeal to the West Indian voters in the United States.
Then the kicker. This has been out since, at least, February 2008.
I live under a rock when it comes to politics, what can I say. Even so, it is interesting that I first saw this on Facebook, found another video like it on YouTube. Quite a journey for someone who, just a few decades ago, was singing 'Doh Back Back' in Trinidad and Tobago.
Does this mean I endorse Obama? No. I just found it interesting. Still, between the choices he seems to have what it takes... so far.
