Smooth-billed Ani (Crotophaga ani)

Greater Ani Series (1)

The 'Merle Corbeau' comes through at least once a year up on San Fernando Hill, its distinctive bill making it easy enough to spot. While it is listed as eating insects, it also will eat bread - and when it is around in late January and February, it will create a sudden calm on the feeder when it lands and grabs large chunks of bread to roost with. They travel in groups; the largest group I have seen consisted of 7 visible birds. Their call, 'oooo-leeek', will definitely have me grabbing for my camera next year for better pictures.
