Global Warming and Magnetic Field Linked?
Last year, I wrote Has Anyone Thought Of Earth's Magnetic Field And Global Warming? which, I am pleased to say, has had some interesting comments. Yesterday, someone linked to PART 1: MAGNETIC INTENSITY AND GLOBAL TEMPERATURES: A STRONG CORRELATION (PDF) by Edward H. Moran and James A. Tindall. In it some interesting data analysis is done, and I must admit I didn't dig very deep into it (yet?). However, when I skimmed it something leapt out:
...During the 1970s, relations discovered between Earth’s magnetic intensity and ambient temperatures (1) were refuted (2). However, analysis of better datasets using geostatistics and statistical-regression indicates global temperatures respond significantly to variations in Earth’s magnetic-field strength. Relations between magnetization and temperature show that a material’s magnetic intensity decreases during heating (3). Earth’s magnetic-field varies, but a decreasing trend has occurred over the past 100 years (4). Additionally, the area within a
ferromagnet magnetization and hysteresis-curve, which is proportional to the driving energy delivered in one cycle, represents lost energy that is converted to heat as a magnetic field oscillates (3). As observed, Earth's magnetic-field strength oscillates yearto-year and decade-to-decade (4)...
'Relations between magnetization and temperature show that a material's magnetic intensity decreases during heating'. This indicates a train of thought where temperature is dominant, which I can go along with. This would indicate that the theory of global warming (because it's still a theory) would allow for a decrease in magnetism in the core of the Earth - but the core of the Earth is a fair distance away from the surface. Despite what people think, China is not 6 feet below them.
Being up all night, I may be a bit on the 'should be asleep' side of things, but here's my theory given the data that I am aware of. Feel free to rip it apart. When I wake up I may agree with you.
The earth spins. Spinning induces current, induces a magnetic field. The earth's spinning is affected by gravitation of celestial bodies (not naked women) as well as inertia. Small variances in the vector (velocity and direction) in which the Earth spins would alter the magnetic field - think of the moon and tides. Meanwhile, change in velocity in the core create friction as the mixture of the core is made up of different materials which, in turn, would cause an increase in heat within the core. While the magnetic field of the Earth may increase or decrease in overall magnitude and specifically in the areas measured, what can be said with certainty is that the magnetic field would change - and as sure as a compass, this would affect pollutants which react to magnetism, which in turn could affect weather patterns by increasing high and low pressures in different areas. The added heat which exists because of the greenhouse effect would magnify the effects of the changes at the core, thereby creating more extreme weather patterns.
I know, it's probably a little weird. Still, it is an attempt to factor in the fact that the Earth itself has external forces working on it, and that these forces can affect areas above the mantle in different ways. Why does the tide rise?
If it spins, it is both a motor and a generator. The Earth spins. If the Earth burns out, I do know a pretty good rewinding shop which... unfortunately... may not survive the burn.

GLOBAL WARMING
Just a Note:
We’re going to spend $29B to further study GLOBAL WARMING while we’ve got 40 to 50-million people that want access to this country because their country can’t take care of them. I believe, as a society, our priorities are quite misled.
Then you have millions of people dying in places like Darfur because there’s no government (or societies) that want to care for them while we sit here and discuss GLOBAL WARMING and how we need to cure something that, ultimately, we have no control over. I agree with curbing pollution, but some problem like CO2, give me a break.
Environmentalists with no actual training need to get with the program and start being more concerned about their neighbors than some self-promoting, ego-stroking problem that doesn’t mean anything in the end. We’re here on this planet and we do the little things we do because of people. Without people, our poor self-aggrandizing, self-promoting little selves are not even spit on the ground
So, people, wake up and pay attention to Maslow’s Hierarchy, then we’ll finally understand what the majority of politicians, scientists, business men, environmentalists, and far-left and right individuals are doing to the poor slob that really wants to make the world a better place.
You're obviously new here.
But in between thinking about other problems in the world, this came up. I won't apologize for writing it, either. Read back in the archives, you'll find plenty that agrees with Maslow's Hierarchy.
global warming
I suggest you all watch a documentary "The Great Global Warming Swindle", it truly is awesome and i further suggest that you show it to as many people as you possibly can, spread the news: the theory of man made global warming is rubbish!!!!!
WOHOOO
the evil environmentalists are simply trying to get their funding through the use of this anti-industrial primitivist propaganda and the good oil and coal companies are there working hard to protect out interests!!!!!
Hail the Oil Industry
Down with greenpeace!!!!!!!!!!!!
POLLUTE ALL YOU CAN LADS!!!!!!!!! ITS GOOD FOR YOU!!!! WOOOHOOOOO!!!!!
Its official
there are weirdos on the internet...
Global Warming and Magnetic Field
Funny that you would suggest that global warming would cause weakness in the earths magnetic field (which is practically implausable), when there are much better reasons to think that weakness in the magnetic field could cause global warming. Our magnetic field (which has fluctuated for eons, even before man-made CO2 emissions) deflects cosmic rays (which in our locality are largely produced by the sun). Most of them are deflected around the earth (thankfully, as they'd be quite bad for us all). The only place they're not deflected around us is that some fall on us at the poles, leading to Aurora Borealis. A weaker magnetic field allows more of these rays in which could have at least 2 effects. First, they are radient energy so in and of themselves they'd add heat to the earth (I admit this is probably a minor effect). Second, increased cosmic rays are strongly linked to increased cloud formation. The jury is still out on whether clouds are good (reflecting sunlight) or bad (H20 is a much stronger greenhouse gas than CO2). Problem is that we can't run the experiment (dial up the magnetic field or cosmic ray penetration and see if it raises or lowers the temp). Either way, you're much more likely to see an effect of Earth's magnetic field on climate than the other way around!
huh?
Magentic Field and Warming
'Relations between magnetization and temperature show that a material's magnetic intensity decreases during heating'
'Earth’s magnetic-field varies, but a decreasing trend has occurred over the past 100 years '
These two observations would indicate the Earth is getting warmer.
Where is the temperature recorded that supports the global warming CO2 alarmists claims? I will assume those measurements are made in the atmosphere about 2 meters above the Earths surface which most human heads frequent.
I can easily believe increased heat produced from the Earth can cause temperature observations 2 meters above it's surface to rise.
I can not believe any politician trying to gather money from the public by scaring them about CO2 will ever acknowledge that man may not be the cause.
