A Thoughtful Proposal on 16m Plots in SecondLife
All over SecondLife, people shamelessly extort others into purchasing high priced pieces of land. It is a despicable practice, and one which devalues properties around.
Since there is no zoning on the mainland of SecondLife and tier costs support these sort of practices - where 32 plots that are 16 meters squared affect tier the same as a single 512 square meter lot - Iwana Fouquet made a proposal which is thoughtful and practical. Quite simply, it balances the costs of 16 square meter plots so that they cost the people who own them more.
From her proposal:
To reduce all of these annoying ad farms, land cutting, and 16m2 plots, I feel that there should be a monthly fee for the peak number of parcels one resident or group has. A typical monthly fee could be:-
1-2 parcels: US$0.00
3-4 parcels: US$9.00
5-9 parcels: US$17.50
10-19 parcels: US$32.00
20-39 parcels: US$60.00
40+ parcels: US$75.00 + US$17.50 per 10th parcel over 40.To allow shaping our parcels and to enable us to buy and join parcels, parcels should be 30 minutes old to count towards our monthly usage. Also, the current square meter usage charges should be reduced to compensate for the above charges.
Obviously, some thought went into this - and I believe that it makes sense. Unfortunately, my votes are tied up in another area which Linden Lab is not responding to... Instead of voting myself, I simply tell you - gentle reader - if you can spare the votes, consider using some here. At the least it will give what seems to be a good idea a bit of backing.
It isn't like these ads have been proven effective, anyway...

With all due respect.
This obvious alt should take her proposal and shove it up her avatar's nonexistent ass. I run a very small group, TempleNET, that has 4 parcels. 3 512s and 1 80m2. She's just assessed me an extra 9 dollars a month for land that I provide freely for visitors all around the grid to take a moment and reflect. I'd shut down. It would be the last straw. My premium tier for myself and my alt is already devoted to this, and I'll need to tier up one of those avs soon because a friend who helps with tier is dropping their yearly because of LLs stellar crapheadedness over the last year.
I appreciate the anti 16k sentiment but this would affect FAR more than those assholes. It would destroy businesses across SL.
This is a bad idea and whoever put the vote up is obviously trolling it up.
Hmm.
Seems to me that you missed the point. You say you have a single 80 square meter plot. That isn't the same as 5 separate 16m parcels, though it adds up to the same size.
As far as 'with all due respect' prefacing 'this obvious alt should take her proposal...' - you're out of line. Way out of line. And I wonder, who is this 'obvious alt' an alt of? Some bogeyman you have? It's ok, you can turn off the lights at night. We'll leave a night light on.
And as far as the rest, well, do you have a solution? You make it sound as if balancing an obvious imbalance will cause the sky to fall, etc... Having heard this rumor spread before, you'll forgive me if I am willing to stand back and watch.
We do know that ...
You are really ... how it's best put... Well you get all angry about 16sqm plots.
But that's just unjust to comment to his comment like that way.
He is right, on the portion that this move, would simply destroy businesses!
That's a lot of money.
A realtor might hold hundreds of 512sqm parcels alone. Now, think about THAT COST.
All of sudden, making nice sized lots which sell fast (512, 1024, 4096) is not a good idea.
And sometimes, to get a good shape, you need to make a lot of small strips to make it happen.
Instead we would start seeing a lot of 8k, 16k parcels for sale, now, most cannot afford these at all.
(Oh and i see the new looks, still a bit spammy btw, i find it ironic)
Tyrian, Tyrian, Tyrian.
Actually, it is quite just to comment to his comment that way. It's my website. Who are you?
As far as the defense of your use of these small plots, well - we understand that your 'bank' is not financially stable enough to hold larger parcels for those Big, Ugly Billboards. Perhaps one day, you will make enough money to actually be effective without annoying other people.
And your comments on the website - Hey, man, your criticism is a compliment. Having you trying to take cheap shots is something which I am proud of. See, what you forget is that I didn't stick my site in front of your site so that you HAD to look at it. No. You came here on your own - and you can leave here on your own. What you do in SecondLife is devalue other people's investments, which is why your bank will always do poorly.
I'd comment on your little site, but it doesn't merit anything but this sentence.
Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time.
I didn't even remember that
I didn't even remember that you use drupal. How do you get the categories to show up in the menu on the left?
Blocks, Owen
It's all blocks and menu stuff.
