SecondLife Drupal User's Group
Last week the Drupal user group of SecondLife got off to a humble start - no meetings or anything yet, since it is mainly made up of Trellon employees right now - but it has started.
For now, we're using upstairs of the Trellon office in SecondLife at Progressive Island (190,210,44). You can join the group by simply searching for 'Drupal User Group' under the Groups tab of the Search button within SecondLife.
What is the point? Well, first off the point was to have a group so that the group can decide what comes next. SecondLife does offer some things - for example, a powerpoint presentation about Drupal and its use by Michael Haggerty is already in the Trellon office. I expect that more will happen over time, since SecondLife does allow sharing of audio and video as well as real time chatting ability with eye candy. It is a lot cheaper than flying around for conferences - though the drinks at the bar after hours and the cup of coffee in the morning with people lose meaning in SecondLife.
It should be interesting to see how it works out. I don't expect Drupal users and developers to go crazy signing up for SecondLife accounts - far from it - but it is nice to extend the community in a new way, if possible. Plus I don't have to iron shirts.
Oh, if you do stop by Progressive Island - fly up and snag a copy of Druplicon with full permissions. It dispenses free Drupal shirts. It could also be worn on one's head, but I'd suggest shrinking it first.
