BBC Talks Open Source
BBC In Business covers open source and the effects of open source in the business world. I don't know that the links will last very long, before they are moved to archival.
It gives a good explanation of Open Source in business and social contexts.
And... despite all the Free Software and Open Source on the internet... one would be hard pressed to make a case for the internet's value decreasing. Within SecondLife, one would be hard pressed to say that the value of virtual land within a virtual world would decrease in the same way.
If anything, the recording is probably a trip down memory lane for most of us who have been dealing with Free Software and Open Source for about a decade. It isn't so new, but it is new for other people.
I know that there is at least one person who is running around the blogosphere and SecondLife and saying that 'Open Source = Closed Society'. It is an alarmist perspective (from someone known for alarmist perspectives). This recording explains reasonably why open source = open society. Some say that only programmers will control projects, and again that is as untrue as it is in closed source applications. It is simply a matter of being able to get what you wish done.
A nice and perhaps interesting listen for those who are only now learning to spell Open Source and Free Software - listen.
