Ways to Waste Bandwidth

From South Africa, ' Got bandwidth? Use it!' has listed at number 1: LiveLeak.com - where you can catch ABC Reports in a Jordanian Prison to a live giant squid captured.

Second up? :

...2. www.secondlife.com If reality isn’t what you had hoped for, try carving out a happier existence online. Second Life is a surreal experience in which your avatar has a whole world to explore and literally live in. You can earn and spend money (Linden Dollars) and do almost anything you can do in the real world. It is a parallel existence – hence the name. You can even earn a real living by selling virtual services to any one of the millions of people who inhabit Second Life; you can exchange Linden Dollars for greenbacks and blow them in real life. Careful, though. It is addictive...

Probably the best one line paragraph description of SecondLife that I have seen. And it's interesting to see it on (1) this list and (2) this placement on the list.

comes in 3rd, followed by (one of my favorites) the Rotten Library.

Of course, there is an assumption that you do have bandwidth to spare.

ways to waste lifewidth

This second life business is a real waste of energy and time. It's OK for people who are sick and cannot be active in real life, as a modern leisure. But come on if you have two arms and a brain don't waste your real life for that game. You live only once and ther is a lot to do in our world... Get out of the matrix ! Its' fake !!!

And still...

I'm betting that you've never even tried it, Olivier. :-)

Also - SecondLife has landed me work. My friends in Martinique haven't.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. ;-)

You are right I never tried,

You are right I never tried, but there are so many things to try out in this real world ! I do not have the time or interest to try every virtual world.

I'm glad you got some work out of it and I notice, by the way, that you did accept to work for a private business (Linden Lab). Maybe you'll remember suggestion to work for another private company coming from your friend in Martinique... However, I do not mean to restart a discussion on the topic. We are all free to choose how to make a living, aren't we?

I wish you sincerely that 2007 we'll be better than this year and hope to see you around. Our home is open, fell free to drop by.

You see, you show no knowledge of SecondLife

I do not work for Linden Lab. You've just demonstrated how little you know about these things, which means you probably shouldn't be so judgemental. It is quite possible to find paying work through SecondLife without working for Linden Lab. Now you know, but you don't - not really - your prejudice on the topic will not permit it.

We are most certainly free to decide how we make our living. When opportunity arises, we grasp it. When people only talk about opportunity, there is nothing to grasp. As a general rule, when swinging on vines one should not reach for shadows. One should reach for substance. There was no substance.

You know..

Second life is about more than money. And yet, that seems to be your focus. I'm glad you've landed work, but second life has more to offer. It's a way to connect with people you may never have had a chance to meet in the Real World. I've never made any money there, but I've met some great people who have enriched my life in other ways, people I consider true friends.

You're obviously new here.

I've written about SecondLife in many contexts. However, you read one of the contexts and decided that it was the only context which I write within.

In essence, you have done what you have accused me of. That's odd.

No...

I'm not new to your site, but it is possible I've missed a few articles. Maybe you can suggest some regarding SL that have nothing to do with money?

No?

Maybe you aren't new, so... a good place to start would be here: http://www.knowprose.com/secondlife
