SAG Head Decries Digital Divide?
When 'SAG Head Decries Digital Divide, I thought - cool. The Screen Actors Guild wants something done about the digital divide.
Silly me. It's just a media part of the negotiation between the actors and the publishers, where the VHS tape has been replaced by the iPod. Where the iPod is used. And where the iPod is in use, it's pretty safe to say that the digital divide is much more narrow than places without iPods.
So what's the reference to the digital divide? There isn't one really. Another reference to the 'digital divide' to garner the attention of people.
The real issue in the article is figuring out whether actors will get paid less or more; the wages since the 1980s are at issue - but I have no idea how much actors make. Is it enough? Is it not enough? How would I know? From the SAG mission statement:
The Screen Actors Guild represents its members through:
(A) Negotiation and enforcement of collective bargaining agreements that establish equitable levels of compensation, benefits, and working conditions for performers.
(B) The collection of compensation for exploitation of their recorded performances and protection against unauthorized use.
(C) The preservation and expansion of work opportunities.
With a potentially broader audience, you'd think that the SAG would do something about the real digital divide.
