On Prokofy Neva

If you came over here from Prokofy Neva's 12th post on me, welcome. Wouldn't you wonder what kind of person would have such a Nobody-fetish? :-)

Yeah, everyone's favorite person in the whole wide world - Prokofy Neva. I'm going to break the silence and say a few things. I'm not going to respond to the 10 unfocused diatribes against me so far; they aren't worth responding to. The reason is simple: Prokofy Neva appears to want everyone to follow her in some sort of cult.

That's my take.

Now and then, Prokofy Neva does come across something interesting. If you can meander your way through the tirades mixed with venom and an uncommon hatred for anything not written by Prokofy Neva, you sometimes find good things. The trouble is - all that venom and hatred. Where did that come from?

To date, I have never attacked Catherine A. Fitzpatrick of New York City, who goes by the name of Prokofy Neva in SecondLife. She writes as Prokofy Neva. A lot of the stuff she writes I disagree with, but I never made it personal.

She's taken it upon herself to watch me, which I do find highly amusing because... anyone reading her blog should, in fact, have Second Thoughts.

She claims I'm 'fuming'. I'm not. What I am doing is assuring that her and her agents don't post comments as they may have last night which were not only meant to demean myself, but to also cloud her very economic interests in SecondLife itself.

Prokofy Neva is an agitator, and sometimes things need agitation. She claims I'm 'trying to take over the world', and yet... I'm not the one who tries to tear down everyone that expresses an opinion that she disagrees with. I am not alone in this; others have had to deal with her petty and obfuscated chapter-long tirades. Let's be serious - if you throw enough manure around, you'll eventually get a flower to grow.

But at the end of the day, Prokofy Neva is just another person who does business in SecondLife, renting property to other people. She's seemingly unable to handle anyone else writing in ways that she disagrees with. So she tries to bury them in accusations, and in doing so demonstrates that she herself may be trying to take over the world. A thief is always afraid of having something stolen, a controller is always afraid of losing control.

Me? Hell, I have a website and I write what I think. It's my site. I'm allowed to do that. That I often find fault in things which lack facts or less than compelling facts, but I am *civil*. I'd expect that from people of Prokofy's age, but hey - I've been proven wrong before, and I'm sure I'll be proven wrong again. Other people she's attacked with similar strategies have applauded my 'success' in SecondLife, but I'm not out to rule the world. I write to explore ideas. Some of them are good, some bad, but at least I don't feel the need to attack anything I disagree with.

Of course, some people are taking it easy right now because Nobody Fugazi is in the crosshairs - but I have big shoulders, and can handle the pins and needles. But I really worry about people who confuse Prokofy Neva with someone who could be an expert on me. I'm sure I could go through Prokofy Neva's stuff on the web and spin anything in any way that I wished too. Anyone could, but what would be the point?

Prokofy Neva wants attention from me, apparently. She wants me to engage her in some way that would probably substantiate her implicit claims of superiority; this post is all she gets. She'll have a response to this, I'm sure - it's to be expected, as this is directed at her as a subject - but she's just a 50 year old woman in New York to me. She's popular/notorious, but that doesn't make her right. Maybe the world Prokofy Neva lives in allows her sort of behavior. I was raised differently. To each their own.

I'm just a 35 year old guy who likes to discuss ideas with people. When I see something cool, I write about it. If I have an idea I'm willing to place out in the open, I do it. I'm out in the open, so I'm an easy target. You can expect me to defend the ideas, but I'm open to criticisms of the ideas. I just ask civility, and what a difficult thing that is for some...

I have no monopoly on being right. No one does. And Prokofy Neva has no such monopoly either, especially when it comes to characterizing people she disagrees with in the manner she does.

Time is on my side. In 15 years, I'll be 50. In 15 years, she'll be 65. In 15 years, nobody's going to care much for the tripe that was written 15 years earlier.

It's the good stuff that will be remembered. That's the stuff I'm interested in, and if you're interested in that stuff - you're welcome here. But if you're here for the other stuff... go away. My website, my rules.
