SecondLife to SMS. Wow.

Yeah. Second Life Virtual Phones Now offer Real World SMS - Popular Styles on Sale:

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) December 6, 2006 -- YouNeverCall (http://www.younevercall.com) has joined forces with SL TEL to bring the YouNeverCall virtual, Second Life cell phone to the next level. With the introduction of real-time communication between handsets in a way similar to SMS and providing a range of useful information services in-world, these new phones look strikingly similar to popular models from well-known real world manufacturers, and can be used to send actual SMS messages to the real world...

Here's the dirty secret: Anyone can do it. Instant Message to email already does the base, and email to SMS is not a very big step.

Similar concepts were used with the Alert Retrieval Cache in early 2005. They've been in use for some time.

Nothing new here, really, except avatars with mobile phones. But hey, if you think mobile phones make your avatar look cool, go for it. And if you can't leave your keyboard and mouse long enough to get to the phone...

I will laugh at you. I promise. Please amuse me. :-)
