Moments

Alien Tropical SkyIt happens, sometimes. Out of nowhere, the world shifts and things seem to proceed where once they were slowed. It's not that anything has changed a great deal, just lots of small things change in small ways - and because you were paying attention, you notice it.

A lot seems to have gone right today. It's the little things, as usual.

You finish some code, you send it to someone. You make a cup of coffee, and enjoy a sense of accomplishment for even that simple completion - savoring it's warmth and knowing it can't be shared; the frustration at it not being shared lost with the years that peeled away before. You smile, and no one would know why. You pick up a book you've been reading and head outside for the stray moments of sunlight. You lose yourself in thought.

The book you're reading takes your thoughts through several layers upward and downward. The satisfying firing of synapses as new connections are made between various things. Michael Nyman's 'The Heart Asks Pleasure First' plays in the background, and you see an iguana on the fence. A hummingbird flits by. A tropical mockingbird lands on your shoulder while you're reading, preening. You can't move or you'll disturb the world as it is, so you take no photo for others to see, but you have a moment. We live our lives for such moments, the subtle crescendos of being alive.

A phone call catches you as you sit back to 'work' - to explore and create more, a playful chore - and you laugh and smile, realizing it has been over a year since you have been able to do so freely. You crank some Wide Swing Tremolo, later to turn it off for a conference call where you express ideas and listen to the ideas of others. You log in to , missing most of what seems to have been a good event and laying back and soaking it in. Connecting dots, meeting new people, buying flames for your avatars...

Sometimes a good day leaks out of you, and no matter how you try to describe it - nothing really comes out as good as those moments.

Life's just too short, ya know?
