Visting NBC in SecondLife

NBC Christmas Tree Lit, From AboveI finally got into after the update issues, and headed over to the simulator (NBC 1 235, 125, 43). While the event for lighting the Christmas tree was over, there were still people standing around and talking. I moseyed around in my Penguin avatar, taking some pictures. There was some Christmas spirit to be detected, a small group congregated by the snowmen in front of the NBC building - trading geography, talking about the weather.

I took a fair amount of pictures - you can see them here - and some of the work done on the building within this simulator was brilliant. The detail on the top floor of the NBC building had a 3 dimensional skyscape optical illusion which showed a lot of thought and attention to detail. The floor inside reflected the tables and chairs, which is impossible to do without manufacturing the texture with the reflection in it already; placing the tables and chairs and everything else that could be reflected beautifully. It's a lot of work, and I respect that - to get an idea of what I'm speaking of, look at this image (1600x1200).

This was only one of many landing points for NBC.

Frankly, that top floor is stunning. The elevator isn't penguin friendly, though. And as Satchmo Prototype pointed out, you can find this place through the search button and finding places.

I'm not easily impressed when it comes to these things. However, if I had to rate this sim - I would give it a 7 out of 10. It's pretty, open aired and allows for conversation - very social - but there is an element of interactivity which seems to be missing within the sim itself. Somehow, I think, NBC has a lot more planned... as Christmas draws nearer, I expect we'll hear more about it.

Oh, and if a penguin starts talking about bacon, please don't tease him by saying you will take it away...

The floor reflection is not

The floor reflection is not a texture. A flat image can't be perspective-correct from all viewing point.

They made the floor texture semi-transparent and just built an upside-down copy of the hall below the floor.

Doh! Good point

Thanks for that Kitten. I'll have to go back and look at it again. O.o
