Linden Labs Not For Sale
Earlier this month, the VP of Linden Lab made a remark which created some minor buzz:
..“We’re open to an IPO or a sale, whenever that occurs. But there’s no rush,”...
This has been dispelled by the Linden Lab CEO in the Reuters article, 'Rosedale: No plans to sell Linden Lab.
The first question that popped into my mind is - 'Why did it take 3 weeks to respond?' Someone could make a disparaging remark about LL's response time, but I find that a little too easy. Without delving into the realm of the conspiracy theorists, it would probably be fair to say that the original quote missed something in translation when committed to the digital press. And, it's also fair to say that this has been a hard month for Linden Labs, but they've managed to forge through.
As Rosedale said:
...“We have a huge community of people who want to do things with Second Life that we as a company are stretched to the limits to try to accommodate, the question for me and us as a company will be how we can most rapidly grow to bring the things that people like” he said. “We have a problem meeting demand, people are buying more land than we are able to put online — that’s a high quality problem but it’s a problem nevertheless.”
Yes, it's a problem. Further, balancing it all with a vociferous community is a task that Linden Labs has somehow managed to continue doing. Hiring more people doesn't immediately solve problems either; an increase in performance requires training of new hires - which means immediate results shouldn't be expected either, especially with a system which I suspect has a lot of checks and balances.
Stand by for heavy rolls in high seas...
