Autodesk in SecondLife

Autodesk Island ExistsAutodesk is in SecondLife now - courtesy the Autodesk blog. It looks like they are planning an event.

From the announcement:

...During Autodesk University, we're inviting attendees to join Second Life and get together for a sneak preview of Autodesk Island, a place to meet with the growing community of architects, designers, engineers and builders in this virtual world...

So it looks like a training event, perhaps related to Autocad or another product of Autodesk. I've been trying to teleport over - someone is there - but I'm not having any luck. The pic is one of the island which I found on the map (again, not under places).

It doesn't look like it would be of any interest to most residents - if any - but it's just another company using SecondLife. Maybe in an interesting way.

Worth keeping an eye on, maybe. It certainly would be interesting to know how they will be using the island. Maybe I'll hop on an ice floe sometime...

Au contrair, Nobody.

Au contrair, Nobody. Autodesk could be quite significant, if they see the buzz around SL and make a plugin to convert models from their CAD products into SecondLife's prims.

Their engineers have the perfect background to attack this problem and, I hope, someone will pick up the task as a sideline project - much like Google engineers devote 20% of their time to innovating.

I hope you're right :-)

I'd like to see it go both ways, too. :-)
