Juliane Gabriel (Jaynine Scarborough) performance in SecondLife
After the presentation on the Apollo Project, I teleported quickly to FuturePerfect in SecondLife to hear Juliane Gabriel and watch her avatar (Jaynine Scarborough)- and her lovely voice was a nice way to tune out some of the noise while writing (though people in front of the stage spewing particles are kind of annoying, they should turn those off... distracts from the performer).
Lovely voice. There's not much else to say. If she plays again and you get a chance to catch her, do so.
Tip her or you'll have a mad penguin on your hands. Sharp and pointy beak. Mind your manners.
SecondLife is good for checking out people you've never heard. I've noticed more 'Open Mic' events as well as some other similar things. While the big names might do performances for select crowds, some of the up and coming or more-established-but-not-as-well-known folks get a chance to be heard and entertain us. This could be a good way for new performers to attract people to buy their music, and maybe even to be 'found' by recording studios.
Yes, the web is good - but the web doesn't show a crowd while a performance is going on. A virtual world does.
It's a matter of time before someone does SecondLife karaoke (not the text spam singalong, real singing), if they haven't done it already. Drunk people at keyboards might be better than drunk people at bars, and imagine - being able to embarass yourself all over the world at the same time! :-)
But then, people like Jaynine Scarborough will help raise the bar, entertain us, and still hopefully make enough for themselves so that they can continue creating.
