Dodging the DRM Bullet with Zune. Or Not.
Got a Zune? Well, if you do - the hack is out: 'How To Bypass The Zune's WiFi Sharing DRM' has tutorials on how to do just that.
Is it a crack? I don't know, I can't pass judgement on it. I'm sure that if it violates DMCA or something, someone will have hordes of lawyers screaming at them.
If I had a Zune, would I use it? Good question. First of all, I don't want a Zune. Don't need one. I have plenty to look at all day, and I've found stuff like the SanDisk are more my cup of portable enjoyment.
I suppose I'm not very cool and Zuney, but I know what I like. And I don't have to deal with DRM. Not that I'm afraid of it, mind you, I'm just not a big fan of subsidizing copy protection when I buy music or the equipment to listen to it. Knock your socks off. :-)
Still... if someone has the right to create DVD compilations and bypass mobile phone locks, what's a little DRM between friends? Still, there's a thin line between fair use and borrowing a service without paying for it (criminal lawyers call it theft).
I'm sure I don't know. So if you use the hack, lock up your tapioca pudding and burn your library card. :-)
