SecondLife Building Tutorials
A lot of people seem to think building in SecondLife is difficult, and that it is only for geeks. I stumbled across these videos which were posted by Onic. Some mature language is involved, but then... most of the time, explicit language seems to be imperative when torturing prims.
A few notes: The voice goes with the avatar. Reminiscent of Sam the Eagle, I think, but with actual stuff to talk about (I cracked up at the start of the second one). The twisting of prims is called 'torturing prims' inworld. As you'll see, making simple objects in SecondLife is quite simple. Putting them together, or 'linking', is as simple as selecting them and hitting CTRL-L (link).
Not that's not hard, now is it?
The second video shows 'Dances With Prims' (Drokn LeSuere) doing some more 'advanced' stuff. It's all simple to watch, and cell shading is good for folks to know about for serious building effects. The rotation script for the spinning tortured furry thing (watch the video) you'll see how a simple script can be used. Of course, again, if offensive language is something that has you waking up NetNanny, don't watch the videos. Might have been even better with some bleeps. I probably would have laughed more.
But I will say that on my end, when I build, my history as a sailor comes out now and then.
/me smiles angelically. -- SL joke.

After reading your article
After reading your article regarding building in SL, my own language became less then perfect. You mention "making simple prims as simple". May i point out that not everyone in SL has the same type of technological background as you do. So just because you can whip up an object in an hour, that does not mean everyone can. As for the videos helping, watching someone is not the same as doing it yourself. They may be a good laugh for you, but do they actually teach?
Umm.
Right click, 'Create' is difficult? Have you even tried? Right click, select 'create', then left click is hard?
I'm honored you think my technical ability so high, but I worry that you think 2 clicks and a menu selection separate myself and others from some obscure group... I really think you should try, and frankly I am glad that you posted anonymously because I think once you try you would wish to retract your statement.
No kidding. :-)
