Quick Notes On Trinidad and Tobago vs. Sweden, Argentina vs. Ivory Coast

Sweden vs. Trinidad and Tobago was marred by both teams inability to seal the deal. Period. While many Trinbagonians were celebrating because T&T didn't lose, the yellow and red cards as well as injuries have further handicapped any chances of Trinidad and Tobago's progression. No sign of Latapy, either. I wasted 90 minutes watching that game, but the majority of people I've spoken to here in T&T seem to thing that 'just enough not to lose' is worth celebrating.

I live on the wrong planet.

And as far as Argentina and Ivory Coast - I switched to supporting the Ivory Coast early into the game because of their good play. Some people think Argentina played well. They scored early, but their shooting performance was quickly balanced with their falling theatrics. If the wind blew, Argentinian players were falling down as if it were some sort of Latin American soap opera - whereas obvious fouls missed by the Belgian referee against Ivory Coast were played through by a resilient team. Sure, I originally backed Argentina - but if they're going to win by slowing things down and redirecting the ball through theatrics, I hope they get knocked out.

And I hope Ivory Coast takes the small loss in stride. All goals in this game were brilliant. The level of play was outstanding, the teams were well matched. But in the end, the Argentinian players seem to want acting contracts in Hollywood.

If you're going to win, do it with class. Not like that, Argentina.
