To Be Offline: The Victim of Circumstance.
So, I went to Aster yesterday for a residential cable modem line - 512Kbps - and it will take 15 working days (days of labor). Ouch. And guess what? This Friday is Good Friday.
Random question: Why is it ISPs charge more for the same throughput when compared to a residential line? There's no increase in service *at all*. It's *robbery*, and increases the costs of small and medium enterprises. Come on. Be nice to the little guys.
This means that the Dominican Republic will be practically closed for 4 consecutive days. I'm unlikely to be online. That's sort of important for the stuff I do, and it sucks.
I'll have to write offline, I suppose.
So I decided to look for some WiFi hotspots online today:
This points to two in Santo Domingo - one run by Verizon, which is now charging money for it - and another at a casino. Interesting, and unlikely candidates.
Of course, in my physical social network, I'm the only person here who is interested in hotspots. Grr.
