Impromptu Hiatus Ended. GPS re-awakened; Business Model changes.

I took a brief vacation from cyberland over the last week so that I could deal with many projects in the real world, some of which will be written of here - and some not.

I've become reacquainted with my Garmin 12 GPS - an old model, bought back in the 1990s, which was recently a matter of attempted business. Someone wished the capacity to track vehicles, but on reflection I believe that they do not really know exactly what they are trying to do. The generalities become less general when accompanied by hard data; one demonstration of the GPS's ability was sufficient to jump from general questions to more focused questions.

This reacquaintance has spurred me back to hacking the GPS. Why Garmin decided to use a proprietary plug is a business decision, and probably a poor one. I have, however, built my own cable for power which works quite well, and have also built a serial adapter which I shall spend some time hacking - as I can. I will also be building my own Helix antenna for the GPS, so I can get even better positioning. If you see someone walking around with a strange device on their back, pay no mind. It's probably me.

Thus, as a hobby, I'll be posting some GPS coordinates from Trinidad and Tobago - like I have for Maracas Bay. All this information, of course, will be covered by the Creative Commons License which governs this site.

In other news, I'm working on a new business model for web development: one which has had a promising start. After I do a few more websites using this model, I'll post more information on the model itself - but truly, it looks really good so far. Further, I do not have to depend on other people, which is even better. We all have to eat - and that includes me, despite what others may think.

So if you missed me - I'm still around, alive, and have been busy thinking, reading and keeping the bills paid such that I may continue the work here and on eAsylum.net. Expect some rapid content additions over the next day or so - though tommorow, I shall be at Maracas Bay, after an early Venezualan breakfast.

To write of life, one cannot just read about it.
