Jaffa, Harry (Harry Jaffa)

The highest kind of friendship according to Aristotle (and the final cause of all lesser forms of friendship[and hence something to which all forms of friendship should aspire]) is philosophic. The ultimate end of such friendship is to test each other's arguments. What greater betrayal of such friendship can there be, than to confirm another in a falsehood, lest one fall out of his favor? It is always easier, and more socially acceptable, to flatter by agreeing.
