The Problem of SMS - and a Possible Solution - Part II

After writing The Problem of SMS - and a Possible Solution, I did some digging and emailed David MacKay from the Dasher project, who pointed me at some other information and resources. He suggested looking into T9 as well - predictive text input. Now that is cool!

Nora Sng also emailed - and she sent me a pointer to a wonderful weblog - Textually.org - and specifically Samsung announces text-to-speech phones. Very cool and interesting, though I wonder how they will deal with the classical problems of voice recognition (background noise, etc). Something to keep an eye on, though.

A certainy irony permeates this, of course. I personally hate telephones for some reason - perhaps it's a flaw in my genetics - but it's not because of the good things that they can do. It's probably because I prefer written or physical person to person communication. I don't like small talk too much...
