He has the right to criticize who has the heart to help.

Whatever you are be a good one.

My father taught me to work; he did not teach me to love it.

Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?

What is conservatism? Is it not the adherence to the old and tried against the new and untried?
-- Abraham Lincoln

No man is good enough to govern another man without that man's consent.

Democracy is the government of the people, by the people, for the people.
-- Abraham Lincoln

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.
-- Abraham Lincoln

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
-- Abraham Lincoln

I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views.
-- Abraham Lincoln

Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.
-- Abraham Lincoln

These capitalists generally act harmoniously and in concert to fleece the people, and now that they have got into a quarrel with themselves, we are called upon to appropriate the people's money to settle the quarrel.
-- Abraham Lincoln

Labor is prior to and independent of capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. Capital has its rights, which are as worthy of protection as any other rights. Nor is it denied that there is, and probably always will be, a relation between labor and capital producing mutual benefits.
-- Abraham Lincoln

see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. ... corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.
-- Abraham Lincoln

You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was.

The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew.
-- Abraham Lincoln

Things may come to those who wait. But only the things left by those who hustle.

The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just.

Always bear in mind that your own resolution to success is more important than any other one thing.
-- Abraham Lincoln

If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business.
-- Abraham Lincoln

If you once forfeit the confidence of your fellow citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem. You may fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all the time; but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

Not said by Abraham Lincoln. This quote was said by William J. H. Boetcker.

Re: Lincoln, Abraham (Abraham Lincoln)

Do you have a source? I'd like to have the quote verified. :-)

Re: Lincoln, Abraham (Abraham Lincoln)

Whoever said it...it still makes sense...so who cares.

And notice how he never came back to give us the source?

Re: Lincoln, Abraham (Abraham Lincoln)

Actually, I do care - I like to understand the context of who said something, and that would include who they are.
