Preparing For Another Weekend.
As the week draws to the end here, I've been researching some entries for Monday which simply aren't ready yet. On one hand, stuff about biopiracy, biodiversity, copyrights, patents - and how (believe it or not) a Scientific American article on these subjects read more like copywrite instead of actual issues of science and ethics on a global scale. Someone has been drinking the Kool-Aid, I fear. You can tell them by the discoloration around their keyboards.
Funding
The Ethical dilemma, as an ethical dilemma, has been solved - but I still don't have money in my account; the payment was supposedly sent on last Friday (February 3rd, 2006) - and I got an email again asking me for passwords, to which I responded - basically -
'No money, no passwords'. This isn't rocket science... and it also makes me leery that such a message would be sent to me if they actually sent the money. If they had sent me the money, they would be asking me if I received it yet instead of gee, can we have those pesky passwords?
Hopefully I don't have to write more about this next week. I have a cron script that checks account status and is waiting to deliver an email upon an appropriate change. That self-destructs today. They haven't come up with a transfer number for the funds, and keep ignoring my emails for such.
This is a member of WSIS Civil Society that doesn't think people should be paid in a timely manner for ICT work. What message is Civil Society sending me from this NGO?
Testing my resolve on this matter is folly.
On to lighter things...
OpenDepth
I'll also be trying to get the rest of the writing I have found by Rabindranath Tagore in the OpenDepth.com library. Funding issues have kept things back on this, but fortunately the funding issue is my problem. Thus, I'll continue to produce. If you haven't checked out the OpenDepth library yet, take a look. It's coming together nicely.
Big plans over there. The OpenDepth.com blog is where I toss things that are interesting and short - partly for others, but mainly for myself.
Life... Don't Talk To Me About Life...
:-) Things will get better. At least, that's the premise that keeps most of us going. Now it's time to go unearth some of those things so that at least a few people are smiling over the weekend. If I'm not paid by the close of business today, you can bet I won't be among the masses.
Produce Or Starve. Right. ;-)
The creator of the image at top right has informed me, at gunpoint, that I should let you know that the image is here, and that you can buy that shirt or customize it and buy it, and that there are more shirts here. I don't think the gun was loaded. In fact, it sort of looked like a stick, but you can never be too careful...
