Slept, rested... and Official Rant Day

The last few weeks have been somewhat hazy, mainly because I haven't been getting enough sleep. My body and mind have been seriously out of synchronization; I'd go to sleep mentally awake and physically tired to wake up mentally tired and physically asleep. No, it wasn't one of my odd experiments and I have grown to value sleep - it's just that a lot of things have been weighing on my mind, and building up to unhealthy levels. Sleep came in dark patches, not unlike some shadows during the afternoon where you can see the shadow but it's still well lit.

Magic Pills To See Morpheus

I popped 2 last night, tossing my usual avoidance of chemicals to make life easier. Uncle Jai suggested the little things. They are pretty small, but at 11:00 p.m., I downed two of them with a cup of tea and had a hot shower. I stretched out. I looked at the clock. 11:25 p.m. I set the alarm for 6:45 a.m, and I swear that the next thing I remember is the alarm clock going off.

I think I need to fix it, because I dimly remember smashing it against the wall. No, no, it came on again at 7:45 a.m. There's a reason that when people talk about the wonders of technology, they don't mention the alarm clock. Sundials were nice. They were quiet.

I awoke.

The Day

Fired email back and forth. Admired the sunlight. Cleared another spot in the yard, posted about the importance of the Haitian voting, and read a slew of emails from people who want me to do stuff at no cost. Umm. We'll get to that in one of the rants. Read some stuff on Negroponte's MythMonster (the Hijinx) - saw that my message finally posted to that list... and, of course, was ignored by the people who say that Negroponte's cranky little $100 million dollar laptop is worth the snot of a tapeworm.

No money yet, but life goes on (though the website they have is in stasis). I am informed by the arbitrator that they say the money left on Friday. Well, OK, fine - it's not here yet, and those lovely people have said that before. I scripted everything last night, so this isn't even on my mind anymore. Being a programmer is cool. Nothing like having cron check an online account statement for a change and from there an email will be sent with passwords to the right people; if no change by the end of the week, something else happens.

Then I realized... some people just need to be mechanically recalibrated with some lodestone. Thus, I'm going to purge my system and really toss out some of the stuff I've allowed to slowly build until it affected my sleep patterns.

Some people may not sleep better, but I will. Rants galore on the way.
