The World Is Unprepared For Disasters. Didn't 2005 Teach Us That?

The Scotsman article, World 'unprepared for disaster', again presses home what many people seem to be missing. That the world isn't prepared for another . In a world that has shown individuals are more interested in looking good after a disaster instead of not looking as good by helping prepare, well, what does one expect?

Some excerpts from the article:

...World governments are failing to prepare their citizens for disaster, it has been announced.

Experts from the international disaster community were gathering at a central London forum to discuss how disasters are hitting efforts to beat world poverty...

...Roger Yates, ActionAid's head of emergencies, said: "For every £1 spent on disaster preparedness, £10 can be saved on disaster recovery...

..."This is preventable and it is criminal negligence not to act," he added.

The forum - From Caribbean hurricanes to Indian floods - is hosted by the Royal Geographical Society and ActionAid International...

Sounds a lot like what I've written more than once.

Disaster Plan

Well, there's a fresh lead for ARCTX, so I'll email them on that. Certain bloggers expressed interest, but we all have our priorities - maybe they will push this point home, maybe they won't, it is not up to me. Maybe will do what others haven't wanted to do. Maybe they will do something.

If you're interested, write them. If you're going to wait around and try to look good after the next disaster, move along... nothing to say here.
