Little in the news in Trinidad and Tobago affects me anymore. I'm comfortably numb, though I'm aware of why I am - unlike, perhaps, a lot of other people. Someone else killed. Someone else kidnapped. It's probably hard to sell newspapers right now because of all the 'fill in the form' news that you'll read. While Jonathan Ali talks about the Prime Minister, Patrick Manning, taking credit for everything (except the current negative situation(s) in the country), or as would be said locally, 'pushing he face', I accept that as the course of electing politicians to power. I will never ask anyone to apologize for being what they are, and that's no exception. Politicians 'big demselves up' all 'de blasted time', regardless of which party they are in.
But when I hopped over to see what Indira was up to, I recoiled in disgust. Quoting her:
Curse the Trinidad Express!!
"VIJAY IN MURDER PLOT
State witness tells court of plan by East Indian man and woman to kill wife"Does anyone see anything wrong with that headline? Or is it just me? Why the need to mention East Indian!?!?! How often do you see a black dude with the name Vijay Narayansingh. Ok. That's not the point. Everyone in Trinidad knows who Vijay Narayansingh is, if you dont, I dont know wat hole u living in....everyone knows that he's of east indian descent. What the freaking hell is the Express trying to do? Dont they not know the state the country is in!!! ?? Maybe i am reading too much into that particular headline, but I think it's blatantly wrong. Why further dissect this story, on racial terms, when it's not even a matter in this case. For a big time Trinidad Publishing Company who, I am pretty sure realises the amount of racial tension in the country, and they have to add to it. C'mon dudes, you guys are supposed to be educated journalists, have some discretion please!
Nailed. There was no need to mention East Indian in the newspaper, it's disgusting. Anyone who lives in Trinidad and Tobago knows that 'Vijay Narayansingh' is an East Indian name. Duh. And everyone knows Vijay Narayansingh - in fact, he's a pumpkin-vine relative of mine somehow (Screw six degrees of separation, in Trinidad it's 60 degrees). I don't know whether he's guilty or innocent, I can't go either way, but I do know that everyone knows he's East Indian. Do they say the same when 'black' people are accused? No. White people? No. Chinese people? No. Now, if a purple person did something, I think it would warrant a headline, but when roughly half of a country identifies with East Indian, telling people he's East Indian is inflammatory.
Sure, Vijay is East Indian. Eric Williams, a former minister who has been found guilty on 7 counts of corruption is of African descent. Should the fact that he is of African descent be in a newspaper article? Of course not. The title of a newspaper article? Of course not. But they can do that with this title because Vijay Naraynsingh is an East Indian?
In another country, people wouldn't buy the Trinidad Express tomorrow, but Trinbagonians just pass on these things and continue suckling at the hands that slap them. I stand clearly with Indira on this one - and I'll say that the Trinidad Express had better choose between it's readership and what could be viewed as a racist policy.
Let's see what they say tomorrow. Shameful. Maybe some African fellow, or Chinese fellow, or Douglas fellow, may commit a crime. Maybe it will be in the title.

stop blaming youths
I am tired of the people in the older generation bringing down youths and blaming them for everything. They blame us for the crime in the country and the road accidents and everything else.It is a big misconception that being older is wiser because it is the new generation that make the changes of the future. We are the ones that keep on advancing the world. The teenagers are being denied there youthhood because they are afraid or not allowed to leave the home on weekends due to the high crime rate commited by people of all ages (and the older ones should be an example) and after going to school all week with all these examinations they have now they can't even enjoy themselves at all.If youths are doing all the crime it's the parents fault.
trinidad express
Trinidad Express disgusts me and yes i think the Journalists and the Publishers all contibute to the height of the racial tension in the country.
I dont even want to go home.Sad but true !!!!
responing to shalini "stop blaming youths"
Based on the youth's comments [shalini] you must understand that some of modern technology is here because older folks researched it...so lets not go further with this. you make one good point in which you contradic yourself. yes its the parents to blame like you said, youths cannot go out without older and younger people killing and mugging each other.
BUT lets face it, when most youths go out with frientds they have a tendency to get into trouble. Ever heard of taking basket? ask your parents ,it is true kids try to do things to get with the gangs ,friends etc, so when you make a statement like it's parents to blame , then parents should allow their kids less time out on week-ends ,Then, we might only have older folks doing crime .then we will know if your statement of old people committing crimes, is true .
i do agree with you that older is not always wiser... there are some old fools out there and, as you will learn, in times to come, that when you get older,it's not fair to compare one generation to another.
The older ones have lived a life that's proven to be what it had to be; times changed for them and will change for you copyright quote by me, do you know that age never dies from a country or the world? It's true, because all those old folks you see today , will one day die out , but old age is still there, you and others around your age take their place, as the younger ones will replace you'll.that's the way life was designed. everthing else is for debate and conversation. lets live and enjoy life there's so much to enjoy lets learn lets listen to old AND young. i have three kids and i listen to what they say just to find the sense in it.and they have been listening to me all their lives .so maybe it's time i listen to them so i can keep up with the change of time .don't get me wrong ,idon't do everything they say. now you can get an idea of my age .i know you were dying to know.

Trinidad
Politics was grown from the seeds of diferent religions,
different races and different opinions,
yet what good will politics be without a dash of hate.
Yes people that is why people love politics,
that is why people love their side of politics,
it feeds their need to hate something.
I grew up in Troumacque Laventille, there was not much Indians living there, but my Indian relatives from Sanfernado always use to visit my mother in Laventille, but ever since UNC came into power, things changed. Family trees where chopped down by politics, no more visits from the southside of curry, for when UNC came into power it was either you ate curry or palau, the old time days where gone, no more mixing food, and its funny, the man who song one of Trinidad's greatest song died not too long after its release, maybe his heart realized that the old time days where gone, That is the price we pay for wanting the lifestyle of Americans, so before i leave may i bless you all with this poem i wrote for Trinidad and Tobago:
“Good bless the land where rainfall falls,
And on this land do flowers crawl,
In the fresh air surrounded by thick bush,
These birds of color the Caribbean's air they push,
My land, my land,
Sweet Trinidad and Tobago,
My memory of you shall never go,
My land, my land,
Sweet Trinidad and Tobago,
The Caribbean posse is all I know”.
"This is my dedication to Trinidad & Tobago"

Mom
I fucking hate trinidad, im
I fucking hate trinidad, im from england and my father was last night attempted to be kidnapped, by your people. Hes English and White, and at Val PArk was challenged by a bunch of black men.
I hate Trinidad, i hope noone ever visits your country and it rots in hell.
Bunch of racist criminals.
Worthless Pricks.
If anyone from england is reading this - NEVER GO TO TRINIDAD.
Not even a nice place, bunch of ugly cunts.
Go TO BARBADOS, ANTIGUA - NEVER TRINIDAD ITS A SHITHOLE FULL OF AIDS.
British diplomacy at its best.
Let's get something straight, boyo. It wasn't my people. I don't know any of these people that you're writing of. I don't even know if what you say is true. Let's assume it is. If anything, your government is aiding and abetting a government which allows these problems to persist. And Trinidad is a former colony of England. Hmm.
Glad they didn't get your Dad, btw. Then you might have posted something rude, obnoxious and generally uncivilized.
What a relief...
Spoilt Brat
You sound like a spoilt brat who's never left the comfort of your parent's protection. I understand your emotion over the entire situation what I do not understand however is the coarse and uncivilised response to your situation. As with any nation we have our share of troubles however Trinidad is still the place we call home. By creatures like you not visiting our shores I think you'll be doing us a big favor. Keep it up.
I have just finished reading
I have just finished reading your comment and am disgusted to be the same nationalty as you. I am a British Citizen and love Trinidad. Your high moral stance is misplaced and as you are well aware of the perverted criminals we have in this country. People kill, mug rape etc in this country so get off your high horse and come back down to earth. Your ignorance is so outstanding arent you aware that the other countries you have mentioned also have crime or has that slipped your mind. I feel no sympathy for you rants and wonder what the hell your white father was doing in that country in the first place. No doubt the apple does not fall far from the tree!!!!!!
You think England is
You think England is better???? Haha. Your father could get kidnapped in any country - Peru, Columbia, etc. England is still full of hate, check out Liverpool and Pickham! As for your other insults to that country - will you are displaying hatred from England. So that does not make you any better Honestly, England does not have Hiv/Aids, get real!!!
England biggest uneducated ASSHOLE!
Please allow me to thank u for not wanting to visit our PARIDISE in the future, but i will like to ask u where were u when england kidnap Trinidad and use our ancestor's as slaves to drain our country it,s resources, we had enough of your snobbish attitude i am happy to know that i can travel to england and not encounter any sort of crime be it kidnap,or rape or even aids, it also seems to me that u got aid from Trinidad, it makes me wonder what sort of trip u and your farther went on but next time u are going on a trip please remember to pack CONDOMS,and leave your ugly language at home, and please go back to school u need to take some education in these fields, spelling literacy, discipline, respect, and a hole bag of shit so u will be able to know what u are talking about in the future. i mean u are WHITE J...A... and one more thing u are not welcome in t/t but keep looking over your shoulders when u visit other countries because all countries have crime.ha ha ha
Flower Revolution ITS UP TO THE YOUTH!
I feel really strongly that the only solution to the violence in Trinidad will come from the youth. I think that the youth of all cultural backgrounds have to stand up together, and say that yes a solution will come, and acknowledge that the racism of the older generations was the most deconstructive force acting on Trinidad. We have to embrace the concept of a unified, self-conscious country, in which all members are valuable and respected.
RESPECT EACH OTHER!
I really believe that we are all born equally, and it is the situation in which we are born into that stares us in this direction or in that. If we construct and invent institutions in Trinidad which respects each individual, we can take care for the upcoming generations, that our children and grandchildren have a safe environment in which to grow and to explore.
I think one of the potentially most influential forces on the youth is music. If you have a musical side, don`t be shy to sing about your frustrations and ideas.
