I think this is being blown out of proportion. It is not stated anywhere that you should not have pictures of The Prophet in books or something like that. You should not have them hanging around your house or in the Mosque. For all that matter if it is meant for education it is allowed to have drawings and paintings in the libraries and stuff like that.
People should be better informed. I don't think it is a form of disrespect that the wikipedia placed the drawings/ paintings on their site. I think they did the Muslim community an big favor by explaining about the prophet. Now everybody can read all the information and can see that the Islamic belief is not all about terrorism as a lot of people think.
